The sustainable cold logistics hub — a great boost to huelva’s agri-food sector.

The innovative sustainable cold logistics hub initiative carried out by the company Frigoríficos Portuarios del Sur is a great boost to the agri-food sector of Huelva, putting it at the top.

Huelva, 9 July 2022.- The president of the Port of Huelva (APH), Pilar Miranda, has highlighted several projects in support of the agri-food sector such as the sustainable Cold Logistics Hub in the South Quay, stressing that for her “Huelva is above all else” and that she is working to ensure that “it reaches the top”.

As for the sustainable Cold Logistics Hub project, “work on which will begin very soon”, Miranda emphasised that it includes a space of 32,500 square metres for the construction of refrigerated storage and freezing facilities. The plot is located opposite the Border Control Post (BCP) and close to the container terminal and the multimodal railway platform.

“This is an innovative initiative that reuses the cold inherent in the Liquefied Natural Gas regasification process carried out at the Enagás plant, located in the service area of the Port of Huelva. This process leads to a reduction of the carbon footprint by 90 percent,” she stressed.

The company awarded the project is Frigoríficos Portuarios del Sur (Friportsur), “which plans to undertake an investment of around 15 million euros in the construction and operation of the facilities”, which also include spaces for “conducting various activities associated with freezing and temperature-controlled storage such as quality control, cross-docking, repalletising and transport of goods when required by the client”, she pointed out.

“For us, this project greatly supports the activity of the agri-food sector in the province, especially in terms of production of red fruits and citrus fruits, with a view to promoting their departure by sea from the Port of Huelva,” added Miranda.
